Network Printer Fleet

The best practice for office network printers is to refresh them every 5 or fewer years but things are not always ideal. After receiving endless complaints about network printers not working, it finally worked its way up to the site GM that the business needs to fund for refreshing these old and problematic printers. These printers range from 8 to 12 years old and were way over the refresh period. The existing printers were purchased and inherited, the new printers would be leased from current contracted vendor.

There were 15 printers in total to be refreshed and I took charge of this project.

  • Obtained floor plan and marked printer locations. Gathered printer information including serial number, service ID, contract, and model specification.
  • Assessed foot print, documented, and monitored meter (usage).
  • Re-evaluated available models within lease contract along with meter history and departments; decreased printers to 10 from 15.
  • Presented new printer fleet plan with business management and was approved.
  • Arranged disposal for old printers with disposal vendor and new printers delivery and installation with printer vendor.
  • Managed site communication and developed instructions PDFs for user self-service, FAQ's, and support contact.
  • SCCM and Jamf/Self-Service printer queue package
